Product News: LaserWave® 550 Fiber Meets the OM4 Mark

LaserWave 550/300 LogoOFS’ LaserWave 550 Laser Optimized Multimode Fiber meets and exceeds the requirements of the OM4 standard recently authorized by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). The fiber supports an effective modal bandwidth (EMB) of 4700 MHz–km at 850 nm when used with 10 Gb/s Ethernet compliant VCSELs. It also supports a 3500 MHz–km OFL bandwidth at 850 nm, and a 500 MHz–km bandwidth at 1300 nm, to support legacy applications.

Are You Ready for Tomorrow’s High-Speed LANs?

Application CollageOur insatiable appetite for bandwidth continues to grow, so much so that the industry is developing standards for speeds up to 100 Gb/s. A new article from OFS examines the requirements of 100 Gb/s applications and the optical fiber-based solutions that address those needs. As the article explains, fiber whose bandwidth is specified using the DMD mask method offers the best opportunity for reliable network operation at high speeds.

Bandwidth: Key for High-Speed Applications

ChartThe key fiber performance characteristic for these advanced applications is bandwidth, or information-carrying capacity. Bandwidth can be defined in a variety of ways depending on the application. In a new article, OFS explains how today’s fiber is manufactured to optimize bandwidth performance, and the methods that we use to provide the bandwidth you need with our LaserWave Fiber.
